Uniquely Equipped to Support Leaders Now and Into the Future
What We Do
Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
PLCs provide facilitated communities within which current and aspiring leaders can share dilemmas of practice, dig into emergent challenges in the field, and take on shared learning together. PLCs are offered in fully online, hybrid, and in-person formats.
Coaching/Mentoring
Coaching provides a partnership tailored to your needs. Typically, we work 1:1 with leaders across the academic year. Coaching can be done in-person, virtually, or in a hybrid arrangement
Collaborative Projects
Our professional learning and research projects are co-created with district leaders, focusing on local needs. Often, such projects include a collaborative design stage, a needs assessment stage, specifically-designed professional learning experiences across multiple months or an academic year, and an evaluation/reflection stage.
Events
We sponsor leadership learning events such as author talks, research presentations, role-alike professional learning institutes, and curated opportunities for just-in-time learning related to cultural/political events.

Facilitated learning communities for formal/informal leaders and alumni of our SSU leadership programs
PLCs provide facilitated communities within which leaders and aspiring leaders can share dilemmas of practice, dig into emergent challenges in the field, and take on shared learning together. The collaborative community of a PLC allows for leaders to both learn from each other and share expertise gleaned from their leadership experiences. PLCs are offered in fully online, hybrid, and in-person formats.
Year-long Alumni PLCs
Typically meet monthly across the school year and include 10-15 participants.
Graduates of our Salem State leadership programs can extend the collaborative leadership learning that is a cornerstone of those programs.
Facilitated by expert program faculty and area leaders, these groups provide participants with the opportunity to gain insight into problems of practice or leadership dilemmas and to share their own expertise and insights with others.
Year-long Leadership PLCs
Typically meet monthly across the school year and include 12-20 participants.
Designed for those holding formal leadership roles in local schools and districts, these collaborative groups bring together leaders across schools and districts in order to share dilemmas of practice, provide insights for each other, and to dig into shared learning around critical areas of leadership practice.
Pop-up PLCs
Typically meet 2-3 times across 4-6 weeks and include 10-15 participants.
These pop-ups provide shorter-form shared learning experience for educational leaders and aspiring leaders. Focused on a pressing topic in the field of school leadership, pop-up PLCs allow for a shorter, community-based learning experience. Across 2-3 sessions, participants come together to learn about a central topic in educational leadership through shared readings, expert guest speakers, or other shared resources. PLC members have the opportunity to dig into the topic, in light of their own leadership experience, walking away with new knowledge, skills, and strategies.
A variety of coaching/mentoring opportunities for both formal and informal educational leaders
Typically, a CEL@SSU coach will work one-on-one with a leader such as a principal across the academic year. This includes monthly touch points, focused on supporting the leader in addressing pressing needs or providing specific and targeting feedback on leadership work in context. Coaching provides the opportunity for leaders to develop their practice, reflect, gain support, learn from an outsider perspective, and more. Coaches provide this confidential support through a variety of modalities, including in-person, hybrid, and virtual.
Customized, collaborative projects to meet individual districts’ leadership learning needs
These projects are co-created with district leaders, focusing on local needs. Often, such projects include a collaborative design stage, a needs assessment stage, specifically-designed professional learning experiences across multiple months or an academic year, and an evaluation/reflection stage.
Collaborative district projects may:
stretch across multiple years or be smaller in scope.
focus on a subset of district leaders (such as just school leaders or just instructional coaches) or focus on all district leaders across many roles.
Depending on needs, larger professional learning sessions may be complemented with smaller group sessions or one-on-one support across the course of the project.
Leadership learning events for formal and informal leaders, including our SSU educational leadership program grads
Events include author talks, research presentations, or curated opportunities that provide just-in-time learning related to cultural/political events.
Typically meet across the school year and include 10-15 participants.
These PLCs offer a group of educational leaders a shared learning and meaning making opportunity, across an academic year, focused on a key leadership topic or professional role.
For example, a focused PLC on instructional coaching would include a mix of learning for participants in order to support the development of new coaching models and strategies, alongside opportunities to share from their own coaching experiences in order to receive advice and input from other community members.
