We are thrilled to welcome the Choir of New College Oxford to the Salem State Recital Hall in March. This concert is presented as part of Salem's quadricentennial celebration. Admission to this event is free. Advance reservations are strongly encouraged.
The Choir of New College Oxford, composed of adult singers and boy trebles, is one of the leading choral ensembles in the world, celebrated for its distinctive and stylish performance of music from five centuries. You can hear the choir in choral services live in New College Chapel, Oxford, and via webcasts, on concert tours and on its 100+ recordings. The choir is directed by Robert Quinney
A wide range of music is represented in its discography; it was the first choral foundation to establish its own recording label, Novum, and has also recorded for CRD, Decca, Erato and Hyperion. The choir has released a number of CDs since Robert Quinney鈥檚 arrival as director. In summer 2016 John Blow: Symphony Anthems was Editor鈥檚 Choice for the September issue of Gramophone, and shortlisted for an award in the early music category. In 2017 the choir released two CDs: The Gate of Heaven: Favourite Anthems from New College, including works by Matthew Martin and Rhian Samuel; and Like as the Hart, settings of Psalm 42, to accompany the novel The Templar鈥檚 Garden by Catherine Clover.
The Recital Hall is located on the ground floor of the Classroom Building on the Harrington Campus, 71 Loring Avenue. Parking is available in the Faculty/Commuter lot located directly across the street.
