The First Year Seminar is a 3-credit academic course and part of the General Education program at the university. All incoming first-year (and new transfer students with less than 15 credits) are required to take this course. Faculty may choose their own topic for the FYS course, which may or may not be related to the academic focus of their home department. This is NOT an "intro to the major" course. It is a topics course that centers on a "big question" that will engage students in developing critical thinking and oral/written expression skills while also introducing them to campus resources available to them as they navigate the start of their university experience
