Horace Mann Renovation Update
Gilbane is using gas fired space heaters in the Horace Mann building to maintain working temperatures for concrete work. The heaters will be working 24/7, and there may be some background noise from these beyond regular working hours. Window demolition and exterior masonry restoration continue. Exterior demolition and excavation also continue for the new elevator and campus facing entry into the building. Interior structural work continues, and new subfloors are in the process of being installed on floors two-four. Floor one subsurface utilities are being installed, and efforts will continue to prep the building for new windows.
Meier Hall Addition
Concrete and steel work continue for the foundation. Concrete pours for the footings have begun, and concrete work is expected to last through December. To remain on schedule for steel erection, the contractor will work this Saturday, December 20, starting at 8 am. Structural steel erection is expected to begin in February and continue through spring. The goal is to have the foundation and steel erection complete by spring so that concrete slab placements can be poured when the weather breaks.
Decarbonization Project Update
A state-licensed abatement contractor, supervised by an independent monitoring company, will begin asbestos abatement in the central utility plant on Monday, January 5. All work will be limited to the steam plant and will not interfere with access to Sophia Gordon or the rest of the Administration Building. There will be some increased vehicular traffic on Lafayette Street as the mobilization progresses. Faculty and staff can still park in the upper section of this lot and in over 250 parking spaces reserved for them on the third and fourth floors of the North Campus Parking Garage.
