About the Scholarship
The Harold T. and Alice M. McCarthy Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a talented first-year student majoring in Art + Design with demonstrated financial need.
The scholarship is a full four-year award that covers tuition, fees, housing and meals, and books.
About the Scholarship
The scholarship was established by Harold T. McCarthy and Alice M. McCarthy, siblings who grew up in Salem. Alice took her first art class at Salem State at age 71. It was here that she witnessed firsthand the hard work and determination of her fellow students. She also came to understand their financial struggles, so she hatched a plan to address them.
When Alice passed away at age 93 in 2011, her estate included a bequest to Salem State University, endowing a $1.8 million scholarship.
How to Apply
All incoming first-year students majoring in Art + Design with demonstrated financial need can apply for the Harold T. and Alice M. McCarthy Memorial Scholarship.
